Unega Mountain Dog Rescue

Hansen was rescued by Unega Mountain Dog Rescue, a nonprofit dedicated to helping livestock guardian dogs in need. These remarkable dogs spend their lives protecting sheep and other animals from predators.

At Unega, guardian dogs who have been abandoned, injured, or displaced find safety, care, and a place where instincts are respected. In Idaho, livestock guardian dogs are classified as working animals rather than pets. Because of this, they do not receive the same protections as family dogs and, in some cases, have fewer protections than the livestock they guard.

Unega steps in to give these dogs safety, care, and a second chance, just as Hansen found.

All author proceeds from this book support the rescue and care of livestock guardian dogs at Unega Mountain Dog Rescue.

About the name Unega

Unega means “white” in Cherokee. In Cherokee tradition, white represents peace and safety. The name honors the quiet guardians who stand between the wild and the vulnerable.
